Snapping Shoals EMC Increases Payroll Processing Accuracy
|

Project Background
The Snapping Shoals Electric Membership
Corporation (SSEMC), a Touchstone
Energy Cooperative, is a non-profit,
consumer-owned cooperative headquartered
in Covington, Georgia. SSEMC provides
electric service to about 74,000 residential,
commercial and industrial consumers in an
eight county area southeast of Atlanta.
With over 200 employees working in eight
different counties, processing payroll was a
time consuming job for Vicki Moon,
SSEMC’s Payroll Manager.
Snapping Shoals started searching for an
affordable system that would replace their
existing legacy system. “We were looking
for a web-based time entry system that
would allow all of our employees to enter
their time,” remarked Louise Blackman,
Manager of Information Systems. Personnel
issues dictated that the system must be easy
to use; integrate to their new NISC iVUE
Financial & Work Order system; and utilize
standard databases.
After carefully reviewing multiple systems,
Snapping Shoals chose PowerTime, a 100%
web-based timesheet system. “PowerTime
fit our database needs by utilizing Microsoft
SQL Server as an option for the database,”
stated Blackman.
Labor Distribution Module
“Most of our decision related to our
requirement to have employees enter their
time using Quick Numbers that spread to
multiple GL accounts,” commented
Blackman. The PowerTime Labor
Distribution Module gave SSEMC the
ability to create charges (Quick Numbers)
that are automatically distributed to several
different General Ledger accounts. This
reduces the employee entry time and ensures
that payroll is accurately processed.
“We liked the idea of a standalone time
entry system vs. having employees work in
the actual payroll processing system. The
security is not as much of an issue with a
standalone time collection product,” said
Moon.
Flexible and Easy to Use
“PowerTime is very user friendly, has
adapted well to our needs, and training took
very little time,” states Moon. A small
group of administrators were originally
trained in the use of PowerTime and then
SSEMC trained their own supervisors and
employees, thereby eliminating costly
training sessions for all employees.
